Suspicious Fire at Vacant Home

Waterloo fire crews responded to a suspicious fire at a vacant home Tuesday morning, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Neighbors dialed 911 at around 6:30 a.m. after noticing flames coming from a dilapidated, boarded up home at 121 Irving Street. Firefighters found the fight difficult due to the temperatures and the condition of the home prior to the fire.

On Saturday night, a home less than a block away, also at a vacant, rundown home caught on fire. Battalion Chief Ben Petersen says both appear to be suspicious. An investigation into both fires is ongoing at this time. The home that was allegedly set on fire Tuesday was also targeted by an arsonist in June of 2017. In that case, Justin Silos set five buildings on fire on the same night. He was charged with five counts of second degree Arson and Public Intoxication.
