Teen Flyer Marks Amazing Mileston

A Cedar Falls teen has become the youngest person to take off and land at all 104 airports in Iowa, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 18 year old Alex Goetsch completed what is known as the Fly Iowa challenge in 12 days between June and August. He is the 32nd person overall to complete the challenge. Goetsch has had his pilot’s license since December and had a student license since he was 16. He learned to fly on his own before he learned to drive a car. Goetsch said his favorite parts of the challenge were landing in Le Mars, where it smelled like Blue Bunny ice cream, seeing fireworks on the 4th of July, a drone show at the Iowa State Fair, seeing the landscapes along the Mississippi River and the hills in southwest Iowa. Next week Goetsch will head to college at the University of North Dakota. Ultimately, he wants to be a commercial airline pilot.
