Telka Asks Shooter to Come Forward

Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka has pleaded directly to the shooter that killed former UNI softball player Micalla Rettinger. She was shot and killed as she drove home from work around 2:30 Sunday morning on Highway 218 southbound near Brinker Lake and the Cedar River. Trelka asked that the shooter come forward and explain how this happened so Rettinger’s family can find some closure and to clear the shooter’s conscience. Police have been searching the wooded area near where the shooting took place for shell casings or any other evidence. A second victim, 32 year old Adam Kimball was struck in the face by the same bullet that killed Rettinger. Fragments of that bullet were recovered while Kimball received treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Police are not releasing what caliber of weapon fired that bullet at this time. They also ask that anyone with surveillance or trail cameras in that area to check their footage and report anything suspicious from Sunday morning.

Rettinger was remembered during a moment of silence before UNI’s softball game against Iowa last night. The Panthers won 4-2.
