A tornado left behind a path of destruction as it twisted south of Shell Rock and Waverly before continuing on towards Denver Wednesday night. One home, southeast of Waverly, was destroyed in the storm. Several other outbuildings were dismantled, trees were snapped, and crops were damaged in the path of the storm. Jim Oberle told KWWL that the damage trapped him in his home with trees down, power lines down, sheet metal all over the 29 acre property and a five story tree house that “is no more”. The storm system caused many other tornadoes throughout the state, as many as 16, and other severe weather. Oelwein High School reported significant damage to their football field.
