A former Denver track coach whose contract was controversially not renewed has now resigned her teaching position, according to KWWL. Abby Fliehler’s coaching contract was not renewed after last season and while the specific reason has never been released, Fliehler believes that it is because she ruffled some feathers by challenging her superiors. Many students, parents, and community members spoke out at school board meetings in favor of Fliehler, but to no avail. Fliehler has now resigned her elementary art position. She says she has received a career advancement opportunity in education. Her final day will be the 27th. The school says they immediately began a search for a long-term substitute to cover Fliehler’s classes. Fliehler is also an assistant track and field coach at Wartburg.
