Tripoli Woman Gets Probation in Connection to Her Mother’s Death

A Tripoli woman has been sentenced to probation in connection to the death of her mother, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 58 year old Debra Kleppe received a deferred judgment, meaning the case will come off her record if she completes one year of supervised probation. She was also ordered to follow recommendations for mental health treatment and complete 40 hours of community service. Kleppe’s mother, 77 year old Sylvia Schwerin, received scalding injuries at her rural Sumner home on May 10th of 2019, but Kleppe, who had medical power of attorney for her mother, did not seek medical help until May 29th. Schwerin would die the next day. Kleppe was charged with a felony and faced jail time but pleaded to a reduced charge of Wanton Neglect of a Dependent Adult.
