The Union Middle School Principal has resigned although it is unclear if it is connected to his handling of a teacher’s alleged inappropriate email exchange with two students, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The Board of Education approved a resignation agreement with Mark Albertsen on April 16th. His resignation will be effective on June 30th. Until then he will remain on administrative leave. The district has agreed to pay his wages as well as insurance and benefit costs until that time. They will also pay him a $25,000 lump sum. They also will not contest any unemployment compensation claims and will only give the dates he worked for the district if contacted by a potential employer. Science teach Mark Hookham was given a similar deal when he was given the chance to resign after the parents of two students complained his email exchanges with their children were inappropriate. The first complaint about Hookham was lodged in December, the investigation did not begin until months later.
