The Waverly Shell Rock Community School District has posted an update on their investigation into racist remarks allegedly directed at a Charles City baseball player from a W-SR fan. They reiterated that they continue to work with coaches and administrators from Charles City. They also note that a separate investigation is taking place by W-SR’s Title Nine and Equity Coordinators to ensure that all facts have been uncovered and considered. W-SR says that any reports that claim the individual or individuals that made the comments is known is a rumor. An initial statement from the school said “…we have addressed the incident with appropriate individual consequences…” The school district apologizes for the confusion, they say they are not backtracking or minimizing. They finish the statement by saying they committed to a timely and thorough process and will share new facts as they emerge. The story has now been picked up by several national outlets including CNN and Sporting News.
