Waterloo-Cedar Falls Ranked One of Worst Places for Black People

Waterloo and Cedar Falls have been named the sixth worst place for Black people to live by 24/7 Wall Street. The financial news website measured the gap between white and Black residents in poverty, education, homeownership, income, unemployment, mortality, and incarceration. They utilized sources from the US Census, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Bureau of Justice. One of the biggest differences was in the unemployment rates in Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Just over 3% of whites are unemployed while nearly 15% of Blacks are unemployed. The median income for whites is just over $61,000 while the median income for Blacks is just over $29,000. Three quarters of whites own their home while less than one third of Black people own their home. Waterloo has the largest percentage of Black residents in the state. The five metro areas deemed worse for Black people are Peoria, Illinois, Springfield, Illinois, Milwaukee-Waukesha, Wisconsin, Racine, Wisconsin, and St. Cloud, Minnesota.
