Waterloo Council Member Censured

Waterloo City Council members have voted 5-0 to censure Ward 1 City Council member Margaret Klein, according to KWWL. Klein, who unsuccessfully ran for Mayor against incumbent Quentin Hart in November, was found to have violated city code once and violated a goal of Waterloo’s 2017 strategic plan four times by making statements that damage the image of the city. One of the violations centered around Klein’s claim that the city was dumping raw sewage in the Cedar River. The EPA determined that was not true. Klein also claimed the Waterloo Police rebranding was being rigged and accused Mayor Hart of appointing sexual predators to police advisory boards. Klein said she stands by those comments and it is a matter of free speech. She accused the city council of selective enforcing of the city policy before leaving the meeting early to “enjoy a slice of pie at The Village Inn.”
