A Waterloo man, who has a history of harassing ex girlfriends, has been sentenced for setting a garage owned by an ex’s parents on fire, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 31 year old Skyler Garbes pleaded guilty to second degree Burglary and second degree Arson. Investigators found that Garbes sent his ex girlfriend texts asking what she would do when her parents were dead. He then climbed through a window in a detached garage at the family home and set a fire. Burned notes from Garbes’ recent trip to a credit union were found in the garage. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. That will run concurrent with another 10 year sentence for Unemployment Fraud in which he stole more than $11,000 in 2017 and 2018. Those sentences will also run concurrent with a 13 year sentence for Stalking, Malicious Prosecution, Forgery and other charges out of Warren County. In that case he called police to another ex’s home on several occasions and pretended to be an officer in texts and phone calls. He also posted nude photos of the woman online and then again posed as an officer to take a report on the photos. He called the woman’s job and tried to get her in trouble before calling and texting her neighbors and relatives. He was arrested for that in February and a restraining order was issued. In March he claimed the woman used his Amazon account to order merchandise, but police found he had ordered those things and sent them to her home. Last October Garbes shoved another ex girlfriend before threatening to damage her car with a cinder block.
