Waterloo Police Get $40K Grant

The Waterloo Police Department has been awarded more than $40,000 as part of the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program. The grant will be used for narcotics enforcement, suppression and investigation of gun violence, investigation of gang activity, and the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. The program is named for a 22 year old New York City police officer who was shot and killed in 1988 while in his patrol car outside a witness’ home. The four assailants were captured six days later and eventually sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. They were members of a gang who had been instructed by a jailed drug kingpin to kill a police officer.
