Waterloo Police Officer on Trial

The trial is now underway for a Waterloo police officer accused of hurting a man during a road rage incident.

Lieutenant Corbin Payne pleaded not guilty to an assault charge, and waived his right to a speedy trial.

Court documents show Payne claims another driver cut him off in Waterloo back in June. They also show Payne hit the other vehicle and grabbed the driver.

The department put Payne on administrative leave. The Dubuque County Attorney’s Office filed the assault charge against Payne to avoid conflict of interest.
