A Waterloo native and a Dallas Cowboy legend has died at the age of 84, according to KWWL. Don Perkins was a fullback for the Tom Landry coached Cowboys of the 60s. He was named the rookie of the year in 1961. He went to six Pro-Bowls and was named All-Pro three times. When he retired he was the Cowboy’s all time leading rusher. He currently sits fourth in that category behind Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett, and Ezekiel Elliott. Perkins was later enshrined in the Cowboy’s Ring of Honor. Prior to his NFL career Perkins was an All-American at New Mexico, where he attended college after starring for Waterloo West in high school. After he retired from football he worked as an analyst for several television and radio networks, including CBS and ABC.
