A Waverly man has been arrested following an alleged hatchet attack. Friday Waverly Police responded to a domestic disturbance at the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue NW. When police arrived they located a woman with multiple face and head injuries who claimed a man attacked her with a hatchet before fleeing. The victim was taken to the Waverly Health Center before being air-lifted to the University of Iowa Hospital when her condition deteriorated. The suspect was found a short distance from the scene hiding in the park with the hatchet and the woman’s cell phone. Police arrested 38 year old Michael Jay Howard and took him without incident to the Bremer County Jail.
