West Nile Virus in Black Hawk Co

Recent mosquito monitoring in Black Hawk County has found West Nile Virus present in adult mosquitoes. Increasing levels of West Nile Virus are common at this time of the year. Black Hawk County Public Health says more positive tests are likely and the risk for human infection increases as well.

Black Hawk County Public Health urges the public to used insect repellents with DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus, 2-undecanone or para-menthane-diol. Also, wearing long sleeves and pants and keeping doors shut will help. They advise removing containers that hold outdoor water, changing bird baths and wading pools once a week and covering rain barrels.
