The four month old baby who died after being in the care of a Westgate man had 36 rib fractures, according to KIMT. 22 year old Dean Hettinger has been charged with first degree murder and one count of child endangerment causing death. The guardians of Holten Smith took him to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner in April of last year because the baby was seizing. The next day the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by DHS after brain injuries were found on Smith, who died May 27th due to his injuries. Hettinger was arrested last Thursday at the Black Hawk County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges.
