The Cedar Falls woman accused of shooting her husband in the back and killing him is asking for her bond to be lowered, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 67 year old Kimberly Charlton got into an argument with her husband, 72 year old David Charlton, on June 4th. Kimberly claims the argument became physical at which point their dog intervened. David then allegedly grabbed a cane and went after the dog. Kimberly says she grabbed a gun and warned David to leave the dog alone and then fired one shot, hitting David in the back and killing him. Kimberly claims to have cancer, although that has not yet been confirmed, and her lawyer argues she has significant ties to the community but does not have the funds to post the high bond. To this point her bond remains at $1 million. Her lawyers also have indicated they will put forth an argument of self defense or defense of others or property if the case were to reach trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
