A Waterloo woman has received a suspended sentence for injuring her own child, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 25 year old Dominique Lloyd was originally charged with Child Endangerment Causing Serious Injury but pled to Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury. Lloyd’s child was found unresponsive with blood coming from their mouth, had a brain hemorrhage, bruises, and a bald spot on their head indicating that they had not been moved for a significant amount of time. The child was taken to a Waterloo hospital before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Lloyd claimed the child had fallen from a sitting position and struck its head on a metal stand. Doctors say the injuries could not have happened as she described. Lloyd was sentenced to five years in prison but that was suspended to two to five years of probation and one year at a residential treatment center. A restraining order was also issued preventing Lloyd from contacting any of her children.
