WPL Addresses Laura Ingalls Wilder Controversy

The American Library Association announced earlier this week that an award that bears the name of famed Little House on the Prairie author, Laura Ingalls Wilder, would be renamed. Wilder’s description of African Americans and Native Americans appears to be the reason why.

Waverly Public Library Director Sarah Meyer-Reyerson explains how she sees this controversial move affecting Wilder’s reputation.

Meyer-Reyerson also says Wilder’s books can provide a good opportunity to have a conversation with children about the correct way to refer to people of all descriptions.
