WWII Soldier’s Body Returned to Iowa

A US soldier killed in World War II will be buried in a Floyd County cemetery later this month, according to KIMT. 2nd Lieutenant Max Dailey will be interred at Riverton Cemetery on June 12th. He was actually from Cherokee, in Northwest Iowa. Dailey was a navigator with the 409th Bombardment Squadron, 93rd Bombardment Group, 9th Air Force. He was killed in action on August 1st , 1943, after his B-24 Liberator aircraft was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire during Operation TIDAL WAVE. Dailey was just 21 years old. His remains were identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in June of last year. His remains were among those exhumed from the Ardennes American Cemetery and Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, both in Belgium, in 2017.
