Waterloo House Fire

Waterloo firefighters were called to the scene of a house fire early on Sunday morning, according to KWWL. A house in the 2600 block of East 4th Street had caught fire shortly before 1am. When they arrived firefighters learned that two girls, age two and three, were trapped in a second floor bedroom. Two firefighters were hoisted into the bedroom where they found the girls unconscious in the smoke. They were able to get the girls out of the house. They were flown to Iowa City for treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time. A man who was also in the house was taken to a local hospital for treatment. One firefighter was also injured in the rescue. He has since been release from the hospital after receiving treatment. The fire is believed to have started in the living room, leaving behind $25,000 worth of damage.
