The Baseball Writers of America have elected four new members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Chipper Jones and Jim Thome were elected on their first try alongside freeswinging Vladimir Guerrero and closer Trevor Hoffman. This is only the fourth time in history that four players were elected in the same year.
The aforementioned group will join Jack Morris and Alan Trammel in being inducted to the Cooperstown this year.
Designated hitter Edgar Martinez was 20 votes shy of election.
