In other area baseball games Thursday night: Waterloo Columbus shutout Wapsie Valley 11-0, Denver beat Union La Porte City 11-6, Dike-New Hartford edged Hudson 4-3, Ed-Co outscored Dunkerton 14-4, Independence topped Janesville 6-2, North Butler beat Clarksville 7-2 and Sumner-Fredredericksburg edged Aplington-Parkersburg 4-3.
Thursday night the Waverly-Shell Rock softball team swept Waukon. The Go-Hawks won 10-0 in 5 innings and 11-2 in the nightcap.
In area softball Thursday night: Waterloo East split with Dubuque Senior winning 10-7 and losing 7-4, Sumner-Fredredericksburg slammed Aplington-Parkersburg 14-2 and Union La Porte City beat Denver 6-3.
