With summer here and recent heavy rains, Public Health Department officials want to remind the public to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
The pesky insects are commonly found near standing water. That means flower pots and bird baths need to be dumped out after a storm. If you’re near a body of water mosquitoes in the area are most active during dusk and dawn.
The best way to protect yourself is to use repellent with a high concentration of DEET. Also wearing long and loose fitting clothing that covers the arms and legs.
A public health nurse says that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in the area, but not in abundance.
