Tuesday night on Y99.3 Waverly-Shell Rock girls basketball beat Mason City 49-45. It was the first win for the Go-Hawks over Mason City in nine tries. The Go-Hawks are now 6-1 going into Christmas break. During the first quarter senior Abbie Draper eclipsed the 1,000 career point milestone with a put back. Draper scored 23 last night and now has 1,020 career points second only to Aftin Phyfe’s 1090 point school record.
In other area girls basketball: Sumner-Fredericksburg beat Aplington-Parkersburg 40-24, Cedar Falls topped Dubuque Senior 79-61, New Hampton edged Columbus 44-42, Denver ran by Charles City 62-30, Nashua-Plainfield beat Postville 67-22, Waterloo West edged Western Dubuque 62-60 and Wahlert beat Waterloo East 66-39.
In boys basketball: Aplington-Parkersburg beat Sumner-Fredericksburg 56-35, Cedar Falls topped Dubuque Senior 61-48, New Hampton beat Columbus 45-28 and Jesup hammered Don Bosco 85-38.
