Plea Deal for Attempted Kidnapping

A Waterloo man who attempted to kidnap a 10 year old boy from a store has taken a plea deal, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 26 year old Eduardo Cano Gonzalez pleaded guilty to misdemeanor False Imprisonment, Assault of a Peace Officer, and Interference Causing Bodily Harm. Cano enticed the boy to come with him from Independence Food and Liquor. The boy’s sister and other passersby were able to stop Cano from getting away with the boy. Once police arrived Cano bit and pinched them. Cano argued the boy was his little brother and needed to leave the store because he believed the people there were involved in criminal activity. Police determined he did not know the boy. Cano has been sentenced to one year in jail with credit for the 17 months he spent in jail awaiting trial. A restraining order was also put in place for five years.
