A former UNI quarterback has been arrested after trying to take a police officer’s gun, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Waterloo Police were called to the Walgreens on University Avenue on a report of a suspicious person. An officer contacted 32 year old Tirrell Rennie. While the officer tried to identify Rennie he allegedly punched the officer twice in the face and began pulling on his gun. A bystander came to the aid of the officer and Rennie was eventually detained. He was charged with Assault on an Officer, Disarming an Officer and Interference Causing Bodily Injury. He was already on probation for threatening two women at a bar on November 17th and a Domestic Assault conviction from November 22nd. He was also convicted of refusing to leave the Isle Casino Hotel while armed with two guns in January of 2018. Rennie played quarterback at UNI in 2010 and 2011.
