University Costs Rise

It is going to cost more to live at the three public universities in Iowa next year, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A 2% increase is being proposed for room and board at the University of Northern Iowa. It would increase the price for each individual in a double room by $94 to just shy of $4,800, with higher rates in other housing options. The all-access meal plan would cost $89 more to just over $4,500. The increase is being blamed on “inflationary pressures on costs” and to maintain service quality. At Iowa, housing is expected to cost $216 more at just over $7,400 for each individual in a double room, with those rooms having air conditioning. That same set up at Iowa State without air conditioning will cost $135 more to just over $4,700. The meal plans would grow by $107 at Iowa and $135 at Iowa State.
