Wednesday morning on Y99.3 the Denver Cyclone girls beat Underwood 58-51 at the Class 2A State Quarterfinals. The win was their first at the tournament since 1999. Denver got 18 points from Sydney Eggena and 12 points and 16 rebounds from Reese Johnson. Denver will play 3-seed Central Lyon Friday at 11:45 and pregame starts at 11:30 on Y99.3.
The Semifinals are set for all classes. In Class 2A besides the Denver game Dike-New Hartford will face Panorama. In 1A: Newell-Fonda will play MMCRU and Bishop Garrigan will take on North Linn. In 3A: Unity Christian will play Estherville Lincoln Central and West Lyon will take on Ballard. In 4A: Dallas Center-Grimes battles Xavier and Glenwood faces Bishop Heelan. And in Class 5A: Johnston takes on Pleasant Valley and Waterloo West plays West Des Moines Valley.
