A Waterloo man who escaped from the Waterloo Residential Facility in April of 2020 has been sentenced to prison time, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 42 year old Steven Petersen had been serving time for illegally carrying a firearm in 2015. He was restricted from handling firearms due to a Manslaughter conviction after he stabbed an 83 year old man to death in 1997. In April of 2020 he checked out of the residential facility to go to a new job in Cedar Falls. He never made it to the job and never returned to the facility. He stayed on the run until June of 2021, during which time he passed stolen checks. He has been charged with Fraud and sentenced to a year and a half in prison.
