The City of Waverly ordered the southeast part of the city to evacuate Thursday about 7:45 p.m. because river levels were rising faster and forecast.
At that time, the city said floodwaters were covering 7th Avenue SW and 4th Street SE, and the area would soon be isolated.
A shelter for residents who had to leave their homes has been set up at Grace Baptist Church.
City officials for Waverly are predicting the Cedar River will rise to 16 feet on Saturday. Waverly’s inflatable dam prevents flooding for some parts of the city, but not the southeast part.
No word yet on when people may return home.
People are evacuating their homes in Waverly due to flooding concerns.
Rally Point Cedar Valley Veterans is also offering shelter.
