Four Cedar Falls family members have been sentenced after malnourished pets were found in their care, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 47 year old William Shock, 44 year old Heather Williams-Orr, 34 year old Thomas Orr Jr., and 23 year old Tamara Shock all pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of Animal Neglect Causing Injury. Tamara Shock also pleaded guilty to two counts of Child Endangerment. They were all given suspended two year prison sentences and will serve two years of supervised probation. A search of the family’s home in November of 2022 found eight cats, seven dogs, seven rabbits, and a guinea pig. The dogs were being held in kennels and downstairs bedrooms. Those that were in kennels were soaking in their own urine and feces and had no food or water. The laundry room contained the caged rabbits, which were living in similar conditions. There was feces on the walls throughout the home. The ammonia levels downstairs were more than three times higher than what is considered safe. The Cedar Bend Humane Society treated the pets for skin and ear infections, overgrown claws, fleas, urine burns, parasites, and respiratory infections. The family must pay restitution to Cedar Bend.
