Tuesday in Des Moines the 2-seeded Waverly-Shell Rock girls beat last year’s 3A champs and 7-seed Sioux Center in the State Quarterfinals 55-51. The Go-Hawks trailed by as many as 10 points and struggled with their star Katelyn Eggena stuck on the bench with foul trouble for much of the first half. In the second half Eggena caught fire to score 19 points and the Go-Hawks got their 2nd win at State in school history.
Waverly-Shell Rock will play 3-seed Bishop Heelan Thursday evening. The Roling Ford Pre-game Show starts at 5:45 with tip at 6:45 on KWAY Country AM 1470 FM 96.3.
In the other Class 4A games: Clear Creek Amana beat Gilbert 68-30, North Polk edged Dallas Center-Grimes 48-42 and Bishop Heelan ran by Lewis Central 70-40.
