A man who allegedly sent racists text messages to Waterloo’s mayor and a county supervisor has now been charged with damaging their vehicles as well, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police say 43 year old Tyler Young sent messages to Mayor Quentin Hart and Supervisor Tavis Hall, both of whom are Black, telling them to go back to Africa and referring to them as monkeys and gorillas. Young told police Hart and Hall had caused him issues in his personal life. Hart and Hall say they do not know Young. Young also allegedly damaged Hall’s vehicle by dumping paint thinner on it and damaged Hart’s vehicle by dumping paint on it. Hart and Hall also say Young dumped trash in their driveways and put unknown substances in their mailboxes. Young was arrested in Las Vegas in March. He was been charged with second degree Criminal Mischief and Stalking.
