Probation for UNI Dance Marathon Thief

A UNI student who stole money from Dance Marathon has been sentenced to probation, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 23 year old Courtney Jarrett pleaded guilty to three counts each of second degree Theft and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. Jarrett was on the executive board for UNI Dance Marathon when she used the organizations card 165 times for a total of more than $7,000 to make personal purchases for things like air travel, restaurant meals, and Major League Baseball tickets. The card was linked to an operations account rather than a donations account. A UNI disciplinary hearing did not recommend expulsion and Jarrett is on track to get her degrees in Interior Design and Entrepreneurship. Because of Jarrett’s good standing academically and her lack of a criminal past she was granted a deferred judgment. If she completes three years of supervised probation she will have the case removed from her record. She has already paid restitution.
