One of the Charles City women accused of stealing more than $125,000 from an elderly person has taken a plea deal, according to KIMT. 37 year old Charmaine Carr and 65 year old Sondra Newberry have both been accused of taking the money from the account of an elderly woman for whom they held power of attorney. The money was taken between January of 2020 and last December. No records were kept of receipts, payouts, or transactions. Police say that the money was not spent in the best interest of the victim. Carr has now pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of fifth degree Theft. She was sentenced to one year of supervised probation, must pay damages to the victim, and must provide assistance in the prosecution of Newberry, who is scheduled to go to trial on January 22nd.
