Mayor Upset About State-Mandated Changes

At Monday night’s Waverly City Council Meeting a zoning change will take place that allows for accessory dwelling units on appropriately sized proprieties. This will allow for things like a guest house or an apartment above a garage, for instance.

The State Legislature passed a law requiring cities to do this and that doesn’t sit well with Waverly Mayor Mark Anderson.

Anderson said he isn’t necessarily against the idea in Waverly but wishes the public had a say in it.

The city will also repeal the ordinance which allows for the Human Equity and Diversity Commission. Again this is change required by leaders in Des Moines and the mayor is not pleased with being obligated to make the change.
