Tuesday night on KWAY Country the Waverly-Shell Rock basketball teams both won. The Class 4A 9th ranked Go-Hawk girls beat Class 5A 15th ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy 39-32. The Go-Hawks go to 3-0 on the season despite Waverly-Shell Rock’s future Drake star Lizzie Frazell was injured in the beginning of the game.
In the boys game Waverly-Shell Rock got 21 points from Preston Baumhover as they beat Marion 67-56 to tip-off the season.
Tuesday night on Y99.3 Clarksville and Janesville split the Battle of the ‘Villes. The Clarksville girls got 26 points from Paige Kampman to win 58-38. In the boys game Janesville won 72-27 as Talan Pletz scored 31 points.
In other girls scores: Jesup crushed Columbus 62-19, Denver thumped Oelwein 74-38, Tripoli topped Don Bosco 50-29, Dunkerton slammed Riceville 75-14 and Wapsie Valley beat Sumner-Fredericksburg 51-37.
In boys basketball: Columbus hammered Jesup 82-48, Denver beat Oelwein 76-51, Don Bosco topped Tripoli 83-50, Dunkerton beat Riceville 65-49 and Wapsie Valley got by Sumner-Fredericksburg 54-34.
