The Iowa Attorney General’s Office has determined that law enforcement were justified in the shooting of Benjamin Sink in Black Hawk County in November, according to KIMT. Law enforcement was asked to conduct a welfare check on Sink on November 16th after he allegedly made concerning comments about his mental state. Sink was located on Highway 20 in Grundy County and a traffic stop was attempted. Sink fled, however, leading to a pursuit that would be brought to a close in Black Hawk County through the use of stop sticks. Sink then got out of his vehicle and began firing a handgun at law enforcement. Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies Israel Ruiz and Carson Lutterman along with Iowa State Patrol Trooper Trevor Ambrose returned fire, killing Sink. Sink had warrants out for his arrest at the time of his death related to Stalking and Violations of No Contact Orders.
