The City of Nashua has scheduled a meeting for the public to share their thoughts regarding law enforcement of the town. Currently, Nashua does not have a police force of their own and contracts with the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office to patrol the city. That contract says deputies are in town for 1,750 hours a year and are compensated $75 per hour, resulting in $131,250 per year. The County Board of Supervisors has proposed a new contract with a 2% increase in compensation which will bring the total to $133,875 per year. The current contract ends on June 30th. The meeting scheduled for February 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Gateway to Northeast Iowa Welcome Center will discuss the city’s options including but not limited to increasing, decreasing or keeping the same hours with the sheriff’s office, changing to drive through service with the sheriff’s office, or implementing the City of Nashua’s own police department. The City says they will release data related to this issue in the coming days.
