School Moving Forward with Stadium Project

The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District will be moving forward with stadium renovations – including a new all-weather track, new lighting and scoreboard, and new artificial turf – following board action at last night’s school board meeting.

Baker Enterprises of Waverly was awarded the contract for submitting the low bid of $2,095,000.  Baker’s bid was 23% lower than the engineer’s estimate of $2.695 million. Superintendent David Hill credited the competitive environment among contractors right now for the total project cost coming in lower than the estimates. Hill stated that of the four bids received, ALL were below the engineer’s estimate and that the two lowest bids were from local contractors.

The project is being paid for with cash on hand in the district’s capital accounts fund and will not affect property taxes or any other tax rate, according to Hill.

Construction is expected to begin later this spring and is projected to be completed in time for the first home football game of the 2026 season.
