Tax Fraud Sends Man to Prison

A Waterloo man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for preparing fraudulent tax returns, according to KWWL. 41 year old Tresor Ngoy filed false returns for himself and others in the Congolese community in Waterloo from 2017 to 2022. The government says this resulted in $250,000 in fraudulent refunds. Ngoy is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but has legally been in the US since 2012. He has five convictions for OWI and is currently serving a five year sentence for a recent conviction at the state level. In addition to the three year federal prison sentence, Ngoy must also pay more than $250,000 in restitution and serve one year of supervised release.
