Thursday in the men’s NCAA Tournament: TCU edged Ohio State 66-64, Nebraska got its first ever tournament win 76-47 over Troy, Louisville beat South Florida 83-79, High Point upset Wisconsin 83-82, Duke topped Siena 71-65, Vanderbilt beat McNeese 78-68, Michigan State hammered North Dakota State 92-67, Arkansas topped Hawaii 97-78, VCU upset North Carolina in overtime 82-78, Michigan crushed Howard 101-80, Texas upset BYU 79-71, Texas A&M surprised Saint Mary’s 63-50, Illinois hammered Penn 105-70, St. Louis slammed Georgia 102-77, Gonzaga topped Kennesaw State 73-64 and Houston beat Idaho 78-47.
The three Iowa schools are in action Friday. At 1:50 on CBS Iowa State faces Tennessee State, at 5:50 on TNT Iowa plays Clemson and at 6:10 UNI battles St. John’s on CBS. Also, Waverly-Shell Rock and UNI grad Klint Carlson is an assistant coach for Furman who plays UConn at 9:00 on TBS.
Last night in the Women’s First Four: Southern beat Samford 65-53 to win the 16-seed and Virginia edged Arizona State 57-55 to get the 10-seed.
The round of 64 for the women is Friday and Saturday on ESPN, ABC and ESPN2. Iowa plays FDU at 3:00 Saturday on ESPN and Iowa State play Syracuse at 4:30 Saturday on ESPN2.
