From the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office:
On August 3, 2026 at approximately 6:50 AM. the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a van on fire as well as an argument in the 2100 block of 250th Street, half mile north of Denver. Upon Arrival, Deputies observed a silver Chrysler van with fire damage to the rear passenger side and still smoking. It was learned there was a physical altercation that took place on the gravel road prior to Robert Fults, 37, of Waterloo, setting fire to the van.
Fults was charged with Arson 2nd Degree (C Felony), Domestic abuse impeding air flow (D Felony), 2 counts of possession of controlled substance 3rd or subsequent (D Felony), and unlawful possession of prescription drugs. Katherine Root, 33, of Waterloo, was charged with 2 counts of possession of controlled substance (Serious Misdemeanor).
Fults is being held at the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office without bond. Root was released on bond the same day.
