The following release is from the Waverly Police Department:
On 09/05/2026 at approximately 11:30 am, the Waverly Police Department responded to a call near the Waverly Rail Trail in the northeast part of town. Responding officers found a deceased adult male. The victim has been identified as Justin Allen Patten (34) of Waterloo. His next of kin have been notified.
While the investigation continues, it does point to an apparent suicide, and therefore there is no threat to the public. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by autopsy with the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. As this remains an active investigation, no further details regarding the scene, evidence, or circumstances will be released.
