Bus Rules Could Change

The Iowa Senate Education Committee has approved a bill that would extend how long students can stay on a school bus. Right now, the state says elementary students can ride for no more than an hour, and the limit for high school students is 75 minutes. That forces some school districts to run extra bus routes. Committee members say by letting students stay on buses longer, districts could eliminate these extra routes. And the members say it would also cut costs for staff, equipment, and fuel.
