Next week begins National Emergency Medical Services Week, dedicated to showing thanks and appreciation to anyone who helps out during life-threatening situations. And right now they could use all the appreciation they can get.

Ladage says the best the state can do to address this crisis is to have EMS declared as an essential service in Iowa and for it to receive funding as such. He says this will assure at least a minimum level of security for everyone in the state.
