The results are in for the 4th of July Specialized Traffic Enforcement Project period, and on the outset it reports significantly lower rates of citations and warnings than the previous sTEP period this year, Memorial Day weekend.
According to the Waverly Police Department there was a total of 16 warnings and 4 citations for various violations from July 1st through the 4th.
But Captain Eggleston says the reason those numbers were so low was because there was an unusually high number of calls for service:
No specific data was yet available for what those calls where for. Captain Eggleston says these calls for service did not impact the seatbelt surveys conducted before and after the sTEP period, which indicted an increase in seatbelt usage from 96% before the survey to 99% after.
