Debate Details Being Discussed

The candidates for Iowa governor apparently agreed to debate but are struggling with the details. Campaigns for Gov. Kim Reynolds and Democrat Fred Hubbell released statements within minutes of each other Tuesday night indicating debates in Des Moines, Davenport and Sioux City. The dates, however, didn’t match up. The Hubbell campaign lists an Oct. 7 Des Moines debate while the Reynolds has it on Oct. 10. Hubbell agreed to a Davenport debate on Oct. 10 but the Reynolds campaign has it on Sept. 30. Both campaigns agree on an Oct. 17 Sioux City debate. Hubbell campaign manager Michelle Gajewski says the campaigns had agreed but the Reynolds campaign at the “last-minute decided to blow up negotiations.” Reynolds campaign manager Hooff Cooksey blames Hubbell for wanting the Davenport debate to air live on a digital cable channel instead of a local network affiliated television station, limiting the audience. He says he hopes Hubbell agrees to the debates on Reynolds’ schedule to provide the largest audience possible.
